Statewide party runoff races and four local tax propositions are scheduled for the Saturday election

St. Tammany Parish voters are heading into the Saturday, June 27, 2026 election with a mix of party-primary races and local propositions on the ballot, according to the St. Tammany Parish Registrar of Voters and the Louisiana Secretary of State.

Officials list the June 27 election as Louisiana’s 2nd Party Primary and Municipal General Election. In St. Tammany, the ballot includes Democratic and Republican contests for U.S. Senate, a Republican race for Public Service Commissioner District 1, a Republican race for Board of Elementary and Secondary Education District 1, and four local tax propositions.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Registrar of Voters, the June 27 ballot will include:

U.S. Senator, Democratic Party.

U.S. Senator, Republican Party.

Public Service Commissioner District 1, Republican Party.

Board of Elementary and Secondary Education District 1, Republican Party.

Law Enforcement District Proposition, listed as a millage renewal.

Parishwide Mosquito Abatement District Proposition, listed as a millage renewal.

Fire Protection District No. 2 Proposition, listed as a tax renewal.

Recreation District No. 11 Proposition, listed as an in-lieu millage proposition.

The Secretary of State’s voter information also notes that Louisiana’s newer closed-party primary rules apply to these party contests. Voters registered as Democrats or Republicans may vote only in their own party’s primary. Voters registered with no party affiliation may choose either the Democratic or Republican ballot, but not both. Voters registered with another party do not take part in those closed-party races and instead receive a ballot with only the contests for which they are eligible.

Election Day polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 27. The state’s deadline to request an absentee ballot is June 23 at 4:30 p.m., and voted absentee ballots must be received by June 26 at 4:30 p.m., except for military and overseas voters under separate rules.

Early voting for this election began June 12 and runs through June 20, excluding Sunday, June 14, and Friday, June 19, for Juneteenth. In St. Tammany, parish officials said early voting is available in Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell. The Slidell early voting site is at 520 Old Spanish Trail, Suite 2F, in the Towers Building.

Voters who want to confirm exactly what will appear on their own ballot can check the Louisiana Secretary of State’s sample ballot tool or GeauxVote portal before heading to the polls.

Why This Matters In Slidell

For Slidell-area voters, the election is about more than statewide offices. The local propositions on law enforcement, mosquito abatement, fire protection, and recreation can affect tax-supported services residents use close to home. The city’s early voting site on Old Spanish Trail also gives Slidell voters a local option to avoid Election Day lines.
