Covington Nonprofit Adds Appointments for Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 Preventive-Care Special
ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — Pet owners across St. Tammany Parish have two upcoming opportunities to save on routine veterinary care through a limited wellness promotion at Northshore Humane Society’s community veterinary clinic in Covington. The program is designed for residents seeking lower-cost preventive care for adult dogs and cats without traveling outside the parish.
Northshore Humane Society’s Community Paw-tection Special is scheduled for Aug. 19 and Aug. 26. Adult dogs and cats at least 6 months old can receive 15% off annual wellness exams and vaccines during the promotion. The organization has also advertised reduced prices on certain preventive medications, giving owners a chance to address multiple routine health needs during a single visit.
Demand for the discounted appointments has been substantial. Northshore Humane Society announced that it added 36 more appointments, including 18 openings on each date, after the original schedule began filling. A later update from the organization said only four appointments remained, showing strong interest from pet owners seeking more affordable veterinary care in St. Tammany Parish.
Annual wellness packages have been advertised starting as low as $96 during the promotion. Individual costs can vary depending on the pet, vaccines needed and additional services requested, so owners should verify the final price when scheduling. Pet owners should also confirm that their animal meets the age requirements and ask which vaccines or preventive treatments are included in the discounted package.
Northshore Humane Society’s veterinary clinic is located at 20384 Harrison Ave. in Covington. The location makes the promotion accessible to residents from communities throughout St. Tammany Parish, including Covington, Mandeville, Abita Springs, Madisonville, Lacombe and the Slidell area. The clinic serves privately owned community pets while also helping support the organization’s broader animal rescue mission.
Clinic services include wellness exams, vaccinations, sick visits, microchipping, heartworm treatment, spay and neuter surgery, dental care and selected diagnostic procedures. Pet owners dealing with several routine health needs may be able to discuss those services with clinic staff when booking, although the Community Paw-tection discount may not apply to every treatment or procedure.
Clinic hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments can be requested by calling 985-892-7387, emailing clinic@nshumane.org or using the organization’s online pet portal. Residents interested in the Aug. 19 or Aug. 26 promotion should contact the clinic before traveling because appointment availability can change quickly.
Why This Matters in St. Tammany Parish
Northshore Humane Society is an independent nonprofit animal welfare organization based in Covington that has served the Northshore since 1953. The organization says it does not receive tax funding, and revenue generated through its community veterinary clinic helps support programs for homeless and rescued animals.
St. Tammany Parish pet owners can benefit from having another local option for routine preventive services, especially when discounted appointments become available. Regular wellness exams and vaccinations can help owners identify health concerns earlier while keeping pets current on recommended preventive care.
Northshore Humane Society reported assisting 1,322 animals through its lifesaving programs and completing 2,282 spay and neuter procedures in 2025. Those figures reflect the organization’s wider role in animal welfare beyond individual veterinary appointments, including efforts aimed at reducing unwanted litters and helping animals move into permanent homes.
St. Tammany Parish residents also have additional lower-cost sterilization resources available. The St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services operates a spay and neuter voucher program, while Northshore Humane Society offers Operation CatSnip for community cats. Residents using a parish Animal Services voucher should follow the humane society’s instructions for paperwork, deposits and scheduling before bringing an animal to the clinic.
Interested pet owners should contact Northshore Humane Society directly to check remaining availability for the Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 Community Paw-tection dates. Confirming appointment times, eligibility, package details and expected costs in advance can help residents avoid unnecessary trips to the Covington clinic.
