Public Records Show A $17.5 Million City Budget And 540-Day Construction Requirement For The New Facility At 911 Robert Blvd.
SLIDELL, La. — Slidell’s long-planned replacement for its aging police headquarters is moving into the construction phase, with public records showing completed bidding and detailed plans for a new police headquarters and city jail complex on Robert Boulevard.
City planning records identify the site as 911 Robert Blvd. and describe the project as a police headquarters and jail facility for the Slidell Police Department. Construction documents call for a new two-story police building along with a separate single-story support building that will be used for vehicle evidence processing and related operations.
The city solicited bids under Bid No. 26-B015, with bidding closing July 2. Contract information for the project requires construction to be completed within 540 calendar days after the city issues a written notice to proceed. A post-bid construction listing identified Aug. 14, 2026, as a projected start date, although an official city notice confirming that work began on that date was not located in records reviewed Tuesday.
Financial records show the scale of the investment. The City of Slidell’s 2025 final budget carried $17.5 million for the new police building, with nearly $350,000 already spent at that point. NOLA.com reported the current project cost at approximately $17.6 million.
The project is being supported through dedicated public-safety financing. The city’s audited financial statements say a Police Capital Fund was established to account for bond proceeds used to construct and equip the new headquarters, including administrative offices and the jail. The related police debt is secured by the city’s 0.38% public-safety sales tax.
The move has been years in the making. In June 2024, the Slidell City Council unanimously supported relocating the department from its longtime headquarters at 2112 Sgt. Alfred Drive. Then-Police Chief Randy Fandal said at the time that the existing building, constructed in 1960, was outdated and poorly suited for modern law-enforcement technology.
Flooding also played a major role in the decision to relocate. City officials previously said renovating the existing property would require costly elevation work and other improvements because of the flood risk in the area. Officials instead backed construction on city-owned property along Robert Boulevard.
The Robert Boulevard project has continued through design review, financing and permitting since then. A January 2026 Planning Commission agenda formally identified the planned police headquarters and jail at 911 Robert Blvd., providing one of the clearest public records of the final location and intended use.

The new headquarters represents one of Slidell’s largest current public-safety investments and will change where several core police functions are based. The project is designed to replace a headquarters that city officials have described as outdated and vulnerable during major storms while providing newer space for administration, detention, evidence processing and other police operations.
The Robert Boulevard location also moves the department closer to the Gause Boulevard corridor while keeping the headquarters within Slidell. The construction contract’s 540-day requirement means the eventual opening date will depend on when the city formally issues its notice to proceed and whether work remains on schedule.
