Sandra Mayfield Browning, age 71, of Pocatello Idaho, passed away on June 16th 2026 at Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge after a short illness.

Born March 6th, 1955 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Sandra was the middle child of the late Bobby and Phyllis (Holden) Mayfield, Sr. of Slidell and grew up on the Northshore together with them and her two brothers Robby and Scott.  Sandra was a graduate of Salmen High School class of 1972 and in 1976 had her first and only son, Beau (Gerry).

In the early 80s her lifelong love of adventure and new experiences would lead her to remarry a sailor (the late William P. Savoie) whose obligation to the U.S. Navy would take her out of Slidell to Charleston, S.C. and Kittery, ME, where she would live for a few years each, before finally settling down on the other side of the country in Pocatello, ID.

She quickly adapted to life in Pocatello and over the next decades made friends that she loved dearly. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University, studying late through the evenings and scheduling tutors to help her through calculus and other subjects, all while working full time and raising her beloved son Beau as a single mom. Later, she would find love again and would go on to marry lifelong Idaho resident, Stan Browning. With the addition of Stan’s four children (Melinda, CJ, Lance and Kevin) she would make Idaho her home until her passing.

Though she spent much of her life outside the South, Sandra never forgot her roots and always held Louisiana dear to her heart.  Sandra dearly loved animals, especially dogs, and would rescue many of them through her life, giving them good homes where they were loved and spoiled.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Stan Browning of Pocatello, ID, her son Beau Bourgeois (Robin) of Oxford, MS, her brothers Scott Mayfield (Angeli Yabao), of Slidell, LA and Robert L. Mayfield, Jr. of Mississippi, her close friend and the sister she never had Benny (Earlene) Shows (Melody Roig) of New Roads, LA, three step-sons, a step-daughter, and many step-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandparents Robert M. Mayfield and Enola Pichon Holden.

A service to celebrate her life will be announced at a future time.
