Fay Hautot Butler, age 87, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on May 22, 2026 at Baton Rouge General after a brief illness.
Born on June 14, 1938 to Effie and Louis Plauche, Fay grew up in Houma and Plaucheville. She went to LSU before finding her passion for journalism and went on to pursue a long career in that field. Her first job was at The Houma Courier. She went on to write for The Slidell Times for many years. After her tenure there, Fay moved to Colorado to write for Sky Patrol Magazine. Upon returning to Louisiana, Fay became an active leader in the National League of American Pen Women and was elected to the board in 2008.
In addition to being an award-winning journalist, Fay was a talented artist. Her work hangs in local restaurants and many homes. Her magnolia blossom interpretations and rustic countryside scenes are among her best works.
Fay is survived by her children Jim Hautot and his wife Pam and their children Alexander and Elizabeth Hautot, Marc Hautot and his wife Lori and their children Claire and Paul Hautot and Suzanne Marquette and her husband Charles and their children Lindsay and Michael Marquette. She was preceded in death by Robert Butler, Alan Holmgren and Jim Hautot, Sr.
A graveside service will be held at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on June 6th at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
