Authorities Say Foul Play Is Not Currently Suspected

Human skeletal remains were discovered Monday afternoon near a retention pond in the Slidell area, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The remains were found at about 4 p.m. near Indiana Avenue and U.S. 11 after a person fishing in the area alerted authorities, according to published reports citing the sheriff’s office.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office was notified, and the remains were turned over to LSU’s Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services, or FACES, Laboratory, which assists law enforcement agencies and coroners in identifying human remains in Louisiana.

Investigators are now working to determine the identity of the deceased. The sheriff’s office has said foul play is not suspected at this stage of the investigation.

Why This Matters In Slidell

The discovery happened near a well-traveled part of the Slidell area close to U.S. 11, a corridor that connects neighborhoods and industrial areas east of the city and serves as one of the approaches toward the Twin Spans. Even when authorities do not suspect foul play, cases involving unidentified remains can take time to resolve and often require coordination between local investigators, the coroner’s office and forensic specialists.
